Cycling
When I got to MiXchange I hadn’t ridden a bike since I was a kid. When I heard that we rode bikes I thought it was those bikes you get for Christmas as a kid but I soo found out I was wrong.
This was my first time riding a mountain bike. My first ride was a lot for my first ride, I did 16km. Since then I have participated in our Dullstroom tour where I did 35km… The farthest I’ve ridden before! I didn’t think I’d be able to, but here we are. There’s so much more to come.
Running
I enjoyed running again. I used to run in school – long distance, track and field, etc. When I started running here it was tough but as soon as I kept consistency I could feel I was getting more and more fit.
I think the toughest run I’ve had to do was at C2D. I had to do a 15km but I had never ran over 10km so 15km was a bit intimidating for me to think about, but I did it and it really wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be.
I’ve enjoyed seeing my fitness levels increase and having people around me that are going through the same thing to reach the same goal, it makes it easier to reach the goal together and then we can celebrate the victory of reaching our goals together, and that’s when we set a new goal and work towards that on.
What is my favourite part of morning conditioning?
My favourite part of morning conditioning is definitely the warm-up walk, it has such a nice vibe with the morning sun and everything is still cool and it isn’t boiling hot yet. I also enjoy the end when everyone is walking out of the reserve and sharing how their conditioning went. Sharing how far they went, how they struggled at some point but they didn’t stop, and that they feel great after.
What do I do when I want to quit?
I normally just keep going and keep repeating “Die to self, die to self” eventually it works but sometimes I cry a little bit and keep pushing through XD
What have I learnt in conditioning that also applies to my spiritual life?
When the pressure comes keep pushing through it to improve and make progress.
What am I grateful for that conditioning has done for me?
Conditioning has helped me repair past injuries. I’m grateful for that because I used to have a lot of pain in my legs (knees, ankles, and shins) and conditioning has strengthened them and helped get my oxygen/blood circulation flowing in my legs properly.z
